In the age of endless opportunities and ever increasing competition, skill development plays a pivotal role in the lives of students. Necessary skills like communication, language, public speaking etc. should be taught to every student from a very young age. The new generation requires a dynamic curriculum with a practical approach towards learning.
Team building activities should be involved in the curriculum so that students develop the necessary leadership skills. Sadly, the young generation has become loners who spend countless hours on smartphones and other gadgets. This hampers their growth and weakens the concentration level. Activities that complement the subject should be inculcated in the syllabus. Such activities embolden students to explore and learn in an interactive way. Classrooms should be transformed into a place where students are not afraid of experimenting and are involved in activities and educational games.

In India, things like skill development and career counseling are considered unimportant and are often ignored by parents. It results to a poor success rate as children are left untrained on the most important part of the personality. It is the duty of the parent and teachers to motivate students to work on their personality. It is high time that people start giving importance to career building from a very young age.
The aim should be to "catch them young"and give them a roadmap to success. Career counseling program should be run in schools and other educational institutions to aware students about different fields and opportunities based on their skill set. A child who is made for mass communication should identify his talent in the growing years so that he can work on his latent skills. This can only be possible with a counseling session where the child and the parent sit together and discuss the prospects.
Importance of interpersonal skills:
"No man is an island" and one must learn to communicate and express his views with the people around him. Lack of Interpersonal skills becomes a major issue when an individual appears for selection drives and interviews. A person who has a taciturn persona struggles in a Group Discussion as he finds it difficult to communicate his ideas to a bigger set of people. The main reason behind this is the absence of skill training in the early schooling years. Skill training is as important as the mark sheet of class 10 and 12.

People take too long to realize this and later live with the feeling of compunction. The new India doesn't deserve the age old curriculum as the competition is increasing every second. The purpose of the mark sheet ends at the door of the college and the test of the personality begins. Currently, schools and colleges of India are very busy creating an army of mark sheets and not individuals with a profound personality.
These mark sheets fail during Personal Interviews and Group Discussions as they cannot talk or think impromptu.Training of creative thinking and public speaking skills should be the priority of every institution as individuals have to communicate and think out of the box in different scenarios of life. This cannot be learnt in a Mathematics class, hence a separate training period should be included in the curriculum. India is at the verge of become the Global leader and in order to make this dream come true, the educationalists should focus on the overall development of the students.
